Photos show the actual item for sale
Here's a very lightly used, fully working Tempus LX time server in excellent cosmetic condition. The photos show the actual item for sale and the display is clean and bright. The internal oscillator is a TCXO type. The unit achieves sync to GPS via CDMA cellular towers (user selectable between 900MHz and 1800MHz bands in the case of US locations) so you don't need your own outdoor GPS antenna provided that you have decent indoor CDMA cellphone coverage. So this may be a good choice for an installation where a landlord doesn't want you running an antenna downlead through the premises up to the roof. The unit has the latest firmware available at the time of listing and has been checked to ensure that it achieves sync. Include a very basic dual band antenna so you can test it straight out of the box. A higher gain antenna may be required for indoor operation or in areas of fringe coverage. No printed manual is included, but a copy may be downloaded here (https://www.prostudioconnection.net/1403/Endrun_Tempus_LX_CDMA_Manual.pdf) if required. This unit has the later hardware which supports configuration and reporting via a HTTP web interface - see screenshots below.
Usually Sells for $5,035
The default log-on credentials will allow you to configure the device (root, endrun_1) - use of the RS-232 serial interface is recommended for this (null modem cable type), so you should have a PC or equivalent which has a serial port available. The listing comprises the Tempus LX CDMA, antenna and US type IEC320 power cable.
The CDMA time receiver acquires time from CDMA base stations instead of directly from GPS satellites. As a result, no roof top antenna, which is susceptible to lightning and other risks, is required. This approach essentially eliminates installation costs of the system, as there is no antenna cable to run and no periodic maintenance of the antenna and cabling due to weather or other events.

Utilizing the same signals as cellular telephones, CDMA base stations act as repeaters for GPS signals, thereby eliminating "urban canyon" affects that can degrade GPS performance in densely populated areas. The Tempus LX requires the time elements of CDMA, making this a stable and reliable time source, specially suited for urban areas. No cellular service subscription is required. The fact that the user doesn't have to install and maintain roof top antenna is a big advantage over other systems.
The Tempus LX is a precision server of Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) that can be connected via a 10/100Base-T ethernet port to any TCP/IP network. In its most basic operation, it sends Network Time Protocol (NTP)/Simple Network Time Protocol (SNTP) reply packets in response to NTP/SNTP request packets which it has received from clients. The timestamps it sends in its NTP/SNTP reply packets are accurate to less than one-hundred microseconds. NTP/SNTP client software is available for virtually all operating systems.
The Tempus LX is composed of a Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) time and frequency engine integrated with an IBM-PC compatible fanless, convection-cooled 133 MHz CPU with integral ethernet interface, a graphic vacuum-fluorescent display, a keypad, and a power supply. Non-volatile storage of the embedded Linux operating system and the Tempus LX application software is via FLASH memory.
