Note that the unit \u003cu\u003esyncs to GPS\ntime and not UTC\u003c\/u\u003e. \nThere\nis currently an 18 second difference between the\ntwo.  Normally these default to UTC time and can be set\nto GPS time as an option.  This unit seems to be factory\nset to GPS time and I could not find a way of changing\nthat.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/font\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cfont size=\"+1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e\u003cb\u003eThis unit has an intermittent problem with\nthe LCD displays and the front panel\u003c\/b\u003e.  Sometimes\nthe displays are garbled and the front panel buttons are\ninoperative.  It seems that once the unit has run for a\nwhile the displays and buttons then function normally (as\nshown in the images).  I don't know the cause of this,\nbut it does suggest to me that the LCD modules are good and\npotentially suitable for a transplant to a different board if\nrequired.  Maybe a capacitor on the front panel PCB is\nreaching end of life.\u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/font\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cfont size=\"+1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eAside from the time being 18 seconds ahead of\nUTC,\nthe GPS Disciplined 1PPS,10, 5 and 1 MHz outputs should be\naccurate, as well as the IRIG-B timecode.  Also, I was \u003cb\u003eunable\n\u003c\/b\u003eto send and\nreceive data using the DB9 serial port using my test PC's\nHyperterminal application.  I don't know if this is a\nfault, a feature that wasn't ordered by the customer, or a\nconfiguration issue. In any case,\nall the important\nparameters for the device are accessible via the front panel\nkeypad, so the serial I\/O is probably unnecessary for most\napplications. \u003c\/em\u003e\u003cem\u003eI have not explored the 86-729-15\nand 86-383-5 expansion cards for lack of documentation, but I\ndo see some config options coming up on the front panel so I\nassume they\nare working as they should, but this is not guaranteed. The\ninternal Lithium memory\nback-up battery has just been replaced so that should not need\nfurther attention for some years. Both LCD displays have a\nbacklight; both are bright and even - see photos which show\nthe actual item for sale. \u003cbr\u003e\n\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/font\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cfont size=\"+1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eA basic test antenna is included to get you\nstarted - so you may need to take both receiver and antenna\ninto the open air to test the device. The Antenna voltage is\n5V so almost any good quality GPS antenna should work, but try\nand have at least 26dB of antenna gain if you want to\nreplicate my test results. A Symmetricom AT575 type is\nrecommended and I usually have some listed separately. Rack\nears are included as shown.
